One Day in Mandarin Oriental Taipei

Big fan of Mandarin Oriental here — always coming back for the amazing flavors.
Here’s a quick roundup of my favorite luxe stay + dining picks at this iconic Taipei spot.

Continuing the East-meets-West spirit of Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong —Mandarin Oriental Taipei has once again earned the prestigious Forbes Travel Guide 5-Star Award, marking its 4th win of this so-called “Oscars of the hotel world.

It’s the first and only hotel in Taiwan  so far to earn the Forbes 5-Star Award four years in a row. The design of Mandarin Oriental Taipei is distinctly European, carrying a strong sense of Italian elegance and artistry throughout.

In the 2020 Michelin Guide, Mandarin Oriental Taipei was awarded the highest distinction of “5 Red Pavilions” for the third consecutive year — a mark of true excellence.

Mandarin Oriental Taipei was also the only hotel in Taiwan to be named one of the Top 20 Hotels in Asia in the 2020 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards — a true honor from one of the world’s most respected travel publications.

Since its opening, Mandarin Oriental Taipei has become known for its artistic elegance and world-class hospitality — a favorite among international celebrities like Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Chris Evans, and Ryan Reynolds. When visiting Taiwan, they all chose to stay here — and experienced the same warm, impeccable service the hotel is celebrated for.

The hotel lobby and overall décor continue their classic style—every visit feels even more uplifting than being outdoors. With unparalleled spaciousness and soaring ceilings, every guest is invited to experience true luxury.

The hotel has 303 rooms in total, including 256 guest rooms and 47 suites. Even the standard rooms start at 17 ping (about 56 sqm), matching the size of typical suites in Taiwan’s tourist hotels.

The “Gourmet Escape” package invites food lovers to indulge in a chic urban oasis experience, featuring generous dining credits and complimentary minibar access to enhance every stay.

Check in on the first floor, then take the elevator straight up to your luxurious room—where even the elevator smells like a serene spa.

My room was on the 20th floor, number 2017. At the door, a lantern-like light set the perfect mood—ready for a truly relaxing and indulgent stay!

Just inside the door is a small foyer that curves into the main room. The hotel’s standard deluxe rooms offer 55 square meters—about 16.6 ping—of spacious comfort.

The room is divided into three separate areas: bedroom, shower, and toilet—each with its own space. The whole layout feels very spacious. Just to the left before entering the main room is the bath and shower area with a vanity.

Villeroy & Boch, a favorite of Mandarin Oriental, is a luxury hotel staple in bathrooms. Its signature feature is the high-temperature firing process at 1200°C, ensuring exceptional quality.

Fired at high heat for extra durability, with CeramicPlus coating to resist stains and limescale.

Step into pure relaxation with the elegant rain shower, where you can easily adjust the water flow and pressure. It’s like having a personal spa in your room—perfect for washing away the day’s stress and renewing your energy.

The bathroom amenities feature products from Diptyque, a prestigious French fragrance brand founded in 1961 by three friends: interior designer Christiane Gautrot, painter Desmond Knox-Leet, and stage designer Yves Coueslant.

The room offers bath products from Diptyque, the luxury French fragrance brand known for “capturing life and travel memories through scent,” including shower gel, shampoo, and hand cream.

Diptyque, founded by three artists, launched its first scented candle in 1963, sparking a trend in France that soon spread worldwide. Known for its artistic and meaningful packaging, the brand’s products add a touch of story and elegance. Taipei’s Mandarin Oriental proudly features Diptyque as its signature bathroom amenity.

A sliding door connects the bathroom’s bathtub area to the bedroom. Usually kept closed, it can be opened during a bath to enjoy watching TV while soaking.

The space reveals an elegant, soft ambiance with wooden floors, plush rugs, luxurious marble, refined wooden furniture, and atmospheric lighting—creating a sophisticated and graceful stay. The hotel masterfully blends understated European luxury with legendary, world-renowned service.

Inspired by timeless classic home aesthetics, the spacious room features a warm earth-tone palette. Intricate leather-paneled walls, delicate textiles, stunning crystal chandeliers, and elegant handcrafted wallpaper combine to create an atmosphere of ultimate comfort and luxury.

Each room includes a dedicated dressing and vanity area, where guests can comfortably enjoy skincare, makeup, and styling in privacy.

A top-tier hotel wouldn’t be complete without a plush, warm, 100% cotton bathrobe.

I love soaking in the tub, and though I forgot to pack my bath oil this time, no worries—each room thoughtfully includes two packets of rosemary mint bath salts.

When the tub is about one-third full, just toss in an entire packet of the bath salts — the amount is perfect for a relaxing soak.

The mini bar even has a fancy Italian coffee machine—perfect for making a smooth cup of capsule coffee without leaving the room.

Just press a button to pick your preferred coffee strength—lights on the left mean a lighter brew, while the right gives you a bolder, richer taste.

Coffee from this high-end machine easily rivals the rich, bold flavor you’d get at a café.

Hot Americano with Colombian beans — smooth, mildly tangy, and great for digestion.

Overlooking the lush greenery of Dunhua North Road — open the window, and the view instantly soothes you.

The room also includes two boxes of the hotel’s special pineapple cakes — lightly sweet with real pineapple bits. Afternoon tea in the room, sipping coffee while gazing at the green street view, is pure bliss.

Next to the entrance is a separate powder room, designed to match the room’s style with elegant wallpaper and artistic ceramic fixtures.

Enjoy a peaceful, stylish room and a delicious dinner that hits the spot.

I was invited to dine at the Michelin one-star Ya Ge Chinese restaurant—offering not just luxurious stays but also top-notch Michelin cuisine.

Ya Ge, a three-time Michelin one-star winner, serves creative Cantonese favorites like Scallion Sea Grouper and Honey-Glazed Char Siu. Loved by elites and foodies alike.

You can also choose the modern “Bencotto” Italian restaurant, honored with the Taipei Michelin Guide’s Plate for three consecutive years. Using fresh seasonal ingredients, it offers an authentic and unforgettable Italian dining experience.

After dinner, I headed straight to the Mandarin Oriental’s spa on the first floor. The warm steam helped melt away stress, and the elegant décor rivals that of luxury resorts in Macau.

This is one of Taipei’s most luxurious aromatherapy centers, offering a spacious and comfortable space for complete mind and body relaxation.

Every detail in Spa Mandarin Oriental Taipei is designed by an internationally acclaimed firm, beautifully blending the group’s renowned Eastern traditions.

I love these thick, soft cotton towels—the perfect wrap after a spa treatment

Blending Eastern culture and traditional therapies, this world-class steam room offers a uniquely refined experience—pure luxury and indulgence.

Crafted from Nordic forest cedar, the steam releases the purest, natural phytoncides for a truly refreshing experience.

Each spa uses exclusive Aromatherapy Associates bath products with a unique, soothing scent I love! They’re also available for purchase if you want to take some home.

Mandarin Oriental Taipei is always my top choice for a day of total indulgence.
