Stay Elegant: Louis Vuitton’s Protective Suit

Remember this moment — and remember Louis Vuitton. This is the world’s first protective suit crafted by the iconic Louis Vuitton atelier. It’s more than just fashion; it’s a symbol of history in the making.

The pandemic has reshaped our values and disrupted how we live and consume. Yet, fashion remains — timeless, resilient, and essential. Can you imagine a world without it? How dull that would be.

Now, behold the most beautiful protective gear we’ve ever seen — so stunning that even those outside the medical field might want to wear it. Because the power of a great fashion house isn’t just in dressing people during good times, but in uplifting spirits during the hardest ones.

When the world falters, true design calls us to rise — injecting beauty, strength, and hope. This is fashion’s quiet power. And yes, it might just save the world.

The first batch of protective gowns was handcrafted at Louis Vuitton’s workshop in Asnières. Starting today, more volunteer artisans from the maison will begin cutting fabrics from their homes.

Beginning April 14, Louis Vuitton’s Paris-based artisans — equipped with automated machinery — will further accelerate fabric cutting to increase production volume of the protective gowns.

On Friday, April 10, 2020, Louis Vuitton transformed its clothing workshop at the brand’s headquarters on Rue du Pont Neuf in Paris into a production line for protective gowns.

Through this initiative, the gowns are being donated to frontline medical workers treating COVID-19 patients across six hospitals within the Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) network — the largest hospital group serving Paris and its surrounding regions.

A team of 20 dedicated volunteers crafted thousands of protective gowns using materials and designs approved by the Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP).

Under an agreement with the hospital group, gowns were delivered each evening to six hospitals across Paris.

Through this united effort, Louis Vuitton provided essential protective gear to support the city’s frontline medical workers — a powerful gesture of solidarity with Paris’s healthcare community.

As part of the agreement with the Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), protective gowns were delivered each evening from the Rue du Pont Neuf workshop to six hospitals across the Paris region:

Some Louis Vuitton volunteer artisans also contributed by cutting fabric from their homes, helping to accelerate material supply and increase gown production.

Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO Michael Burke, during a visit to the workshop, remarked:“We take great pride in contributing to the efforts of medical professionals by applying our craftsmanship to create protective gowns for hospital staff across Paris.”

Thanks to the selfless dedication of the volunteer artisans in the workshop — working tirelessly day and night — this protective gown was brought to life. It’s not only one of the most beautiful in the world, but also urgently needed by frontline medical staff, and perhaps, the most collectible of its kind.

It reminds me of something a French friend once said:“We might end up in hell — but in style!”
